Selection Process

GYB is publishing our selection process in an effort to show that every child has an opportunity to make a Gurnee Patriots Team.

What Are the Gurnee Patriots Tournament Teams?

GYB offers to all of their families the option to play more baseball during the season with our Gurnee Patriots Teams. This GYB program is a way for kids who qualify to be able to play more baseball against nearby communities and their in-house tournament teams.

There are three types of teams that play baseball in the area.

1. In-house Teams: GYB is an in-house program.  It is a program that is open to any player, of any skill level, who lives in the local area.
2. N60/Gurnee Patriots: These teams are an extension of an in-house team. They are made up of players from the in-house program rated the highest in their age group.
3.  Travel Teams: These are teams that are made up of players from a local area that are not currently playing within an in-house program. GYB currently offers this type of program for certain age groups, but not all.  Separate tryout dates are held for these teams.

The Gurnee Patriots are the N60/Tournament teams from Gurnee Youth Baseball.

Program Overview of Gurnee Patriots

1. Your child will be able to play more baseball games during the season at a higher skill level than GYB “in-house”.

2. Except for tournaments, the commitment for a Gurnee Patriots Team is on Friday evenings and Sunday morning/afternoon for either a practice or a scrimmage game. Practices and games begin at the end of March, tournament play begins the weekend of Memorial Day and continues through late July. In July, there may be additional games and practices throughout the week. It is an expectation that players are able to make at least (80%) of these events.

3. Each age level will play in three tournaments during the season. Since our teams are limited to 12 players, we need your commitment to attend these tournaments, otherwise GYB will have to forfeit games and the fees are not refundable.

4. The teams will have 12 players.

5. Players will be provided with a Gurnee Patriots full uniform.

6. The Gurnee Patriots Teams travel a maximum of 45-60 minutes for any away game.

7. In-house play takes priority over Patriots, and this includes field scheduling and make-up games for in-house. Patriots games or tournaments are not allowed in late June from the in-house playoffs until the end of the in-house season.

8. The Gurnee Patriots Team does require a tryout to make the team. All players must be registered for the current in-house season league and MUST attend the GYB in-house evaluations (held in early January) to be eligible to be selected to a Gurnee Patriots Team. Please see the Gurnee Patriots Selection Process for more information and details.

9. There is an additional fee for the Gurnee Patriots Team as well.  This fee covers uniforms, tournaments entry fees, practice time, indoor facility practices, equipment, and umpires for games. You will only be charged this fee if you are selected for the team. There are options for fundraising to offset your registration fee if needed.
