What to know before you buy your next bat...

Before you buy a new bat, please review GYB’s Bat Regulations. A USSSA, USABat or BBCOR stamp is required on all non-wood bats. More information and a Bat Quick Reference Chart is online under the Field Rules.

Welcome to the GYB 2022 Leagues Page

Gurnee Youth Baseball (GYB) focuses on every child having fun while learning to play the game of baseball. GYB emphasizes teaching age appropriate fundamentals of baseball, along with encouraging good sportsmanship so each child can have a positive playing experience.

In this section, you will find overviews for all leagues, along with other important information about the teams.

Mustang, Bronco and Pony leagues may play with other neighboring communities and may also require some games to be played at other communities' fields.

Spring/Summer Schedule Overview

Weather permitting, practices begin in April, games start in May, and the season concludes prior to July 4th. Below is a high-level list of important dates for the spring-summer leagues. This is meant as a helpful guideline to parents and is subject to change.

  • October through December - registration open for following year's leagues
  • January - player evaluations held for Mustang, Bronco, Pony leagues (usually offered on two consecutive Saturdays; players only need to attend one of the two sessions)
  • February - teams drafted by coaches
  • March - players contacted by their head coach
  • Late March or Early April - first practice (obviously depending on the weather)
  • Early May - Opening Day
  • Mid to Late June - regular season concludes; playoffs begin (not applicable for Shetland)
  • Prior to July 4th - playoffs conclude

In the month of April (depending on the weather), each team will usually have one weeknight practice (60-90 minutes) and one weekend practice (60-90 minutes).

In the months of May and June, each team will usually have one or two games during the week and one game on Saturday.  In case of rainouts, games are usually made up on Sunday.


Fall Schedule Overview

Weather permitting, practices begin in August, games start in late August, and the season concludes the first weekend of October. Below is a high-level list of important dates for our fall leagues. This is meant as a helpful guideline to parents and is subject to change.

  • Practices typically start the second full week of August.
  • There will be a regular season plus playoffs. Regular season games will be played each Saturday typically beginning late August & continuing through late September.
  • There may be some weeknight games early in the season (as daylight permits) as well as periodic Sunday games.
  • There will be some games scheduled for the Labor Day weekend.
  • Make-up games will be played on open Sundays.
  • Playoffs are typically held the first weekend of October, with possible make up games the weekend after.
